Fuerteventura

Things to do - general

After Tenerife, Fuerteventura is the second biggest Canary Island. Fuerteventura is located around 120 kilometers far from the Moroccan coast in the Atlantic Ocean. Formed around 20.6 Million years ago by a volcanic eruption, this island is the oldest of the Canaries. The latest volcanic activity was measured 5000 years ago.

Having around 300 annual days of sun, Fuerteventura is known to be the sunniest island of the Canaries. The temperatures vary between 20 and 26° C all year round, which makes Fuerteventura a perfect holiday spot, and is one of the most important exporters for Aloe Vera.

Its 150 kilometre long coastline consists of dream like beaches, where various water sports can be enjoyed, and along the East Coast you can find white sand and turquoise water.

Windsurf and Kitesurf fans can find perfect wind conditions in the North and in the East Coast, between Costa Calma and Jandía. The rougher sea in the West is perfect for surfing.

Apart from the various beaches Fuerteventura, has some other sightseeing highlights to offer, such as the Ecomuseo La Alcogida, a restored ancient farm which shows the life on Fuerteventura before the touristic exploitation. Here you can admire ancient handicraft. And you shouldn’t miss the islands self-made goats cheese, it’s a delicacy!
